Anna Russian

This is the first oxheart tomato I grew. It won my “heart” and I fell in love with this category. Beautiful rosy pink fruit with characteristic heavy heart shape. Fruit may have some green shoulders. Sizes vary, ranging from 5 oz to over a lb. Most are 12-16 oz.  Flavor is sweet and smooth and many times Anna Russian is mentioned as being someone’s favorite heart tomato. Fruit grow in clusters of two and production can range from good to very good.

Story:

From Tatiana’s TOMATObase:

Anna Russian was sent to Craig LeHoullier in 1989 by Brenda Getty Hillenius of Corvallis, Oregon. She received the variety from her grandfather, Kenneth Wilcox. Kenneth received the seeds from a Russian immigrant in the 1980s, who was sent the variety by his family, who lived in Russia. Craig LeHoullier introduced it to the SSE Yearbook in 1989. First commercially introduced by Southern Exposure Seed Exchange in 1996. This is one of the 100 heirlooms described in Carolyn J. Male's book "100 Heirloom Tomatoes for the American Garden"
